Day 4 Auckland NZ

We had breakfast overlooking the harbour and the RAIN!

We were scheduled to hike Māngere Mountain (volcano cone). Ian made several phone calls to make sure the hike wouldn't be too wet, slippery, or dangerous. We decided to brave it. Luckily the rain paused. Our Maori tour guide, Ali, gave us a great tour. Loved her greeting in Maori.

Drove to Devonport. We had a little time to browse the shops in this charming village. Had lunch at the beach at McHugh's of Cheltenham. Quite the spread. I wish I liked mussels. They looked plump and juicy.

We drove through the ritzy neighborhoods on Paritai and Tamaki Drives. One house is listed for $50M NZD. Drove through, though no time to stop at St. Heliers Beach and Bastion Point.

Drove across the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Not sure if we were on the "Nippon Clip-on" (look it up) portion.

Despite the rain, I decided to ascend (in an elevator, not climbing) the Sky Tower. The views were spectacular from 51 floors above Auckland.

It was raining pretty hard, but I walked to Viaduct Harbour/Basin, then to the Wynyard Quarter. Saw some amazing, historical yachts. Stopped for a NZ beer at 16 Tun.

I had dinner at the Harbourside Ocean Bar Grill. Ate in the bar, at a window, facing the ferry boats. Delicious fish & chips and a New Zealand Viognier.

Time to pack as we leave for Rotorua tomorrow morning.
